Zacchaeus and the Sycamore Tree by Don D. Brown is an illustrated Bible story adventure in the God’s Creatures Tell the Story series, featuring the Divine News Team. He climbed a tree to see Jesus. He never expected Jesus to stop for him.

In the crowded streets of Jericho, Zacchaeus has wealth and influence—but little welcome. Unable to see above the crowd, he scrambles into a sycamore tree. What follows is an encounter that challenges his priorities and opens the door to repentance, generosity, and a changed life.

Join Penny the Squirrel, Professor Hoot the Owl, and Dominic the Donkey as they report on this unforgettable moment. Along the way, an ancient tree named Witness offers a fresh perspective on patience, purpose, and what it means to help someone see. Inspired by Luke 19:1–10, this imaginative retelling combines the biblical account with fictional animal reporters, engaging illustrations, and opportunities for thoughtful conversation. Across nine chapters, readers explore grace, forgiveness, restitution, and the connection between faith and the way we treat our neighbors.

The book includes:

• A 200-entry vocabulary glossary to support understanding and build reading confidence.

• Bible-study activities and Scripture connections for deeper exploration.

• Historical context that helps readers picture the world of the story.

• Guided discussion for families, homeschool lessons, and church groups.

Written for independent readers ages 12–15, and for younger readers sharing the story with an adult, Zacchaeus and the Sycamore Tree invites readers to consider a lasting question: When grace changes our hearts, how will it change our actions?
